Understanding the Carbon Cycle

When fossil-based oil, coal, and natural gas are the raw material, GHG increases. When renewable carbon, CO2 from the atmosphere, is a raw material, it’s possible to balance or even reverse GHG emissions across the carbon cycle by efficient production and carbon capture via sustainable farming.

For example, using sustainable, non-food corn as the feedstock, it’s possible to capture anywhere from 0.8 to 4 kilograms of carbon dioxide in the soil for every gallon of jet fuel produced. As we change our energy sources from fossil based to renewable, it is possible to eliminate or even have negative carbon dioxide emissions across the cycle.

PearlX announced its first large-scale solar and storage installation since Antin Infrastructure Partners invested in a majority stake of the company in February.

The large-scale installation is for High Desert Villas, a 232-unit senior community in Victorville, California, with over 700 kW of solar power installed on the property’s rooftops, and 314 kWh of paired battery storage. PearlX’s uses a community solar + storage and financing model that benefits all stakeholders. Property owner Strata Equity Group receives increased cash flows through lease payments from PearlX.

Gov. Tim Walz signed a bill into law that includes an $80 million investment in solar + energy storage incentive programs for the state of Minnesota. The law also expands the state’s Community Solar Garden program and adds new requirements for utilities to procure distributed solar.

Connecticut Green Bank increases loan maximums to finance more comprehensive renewable energy projects

The Connecticut Green Bank is pleased to announce updates to its Smart-E loan program designed to help more homeowners take advantage of low-interest financing to access energy-saving technologies. The loan’s maximum amount will increase from a $40,000 limit to a $50,000 standard maximum, and with exception approval from the lending partner, up to $75,000.

The Ohio Air Quality Development Authority (OAQDA) issued $275 million in air quality revenue bonds to finance Madison Fields Solar Project in Madison County, Ohio.

“We are excited to partner with local leaders and Madison Fields Solar Project on the development of this solar facility that brings additional investment into the community,” said Christina O’Keeffe, the executive director of OAQDA. “In addition to the air quality and economic benefits, the project embraces an innovative approach known as ‘agrivoltaics,’ providing continued revenue opportunities for local farmers.”

The Advanced Power and Energy Program at the University of California, Irvine, joined the U.S. Department of Energy, KB Home, SunPower, Southern California Edison and Schneider Electric on May 22 to officially open the novel microgrid communities located in the Shadow Mountain master plan in Menifee, California.

Goldbeck Solar, a Germany-based solar energy solutions provider, is rebranding its North American EPC Division, formerly known as GP JOULE EPC North America. Effective immediately, the division will now operate under the name Goldbeck Solar.

Goldbeck Solar is rebranding to grow its presence in North America, according to a press release. The company produces solar racking for ground-mount, rooftop and agricultural applications.

The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) announced it is releasing a suite of new and updated resources for consumers to meet the increase in demand for solar power created by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

With the IRA’s incentives in place and energy bills weighing on family budgets, consumers are eager to add solar and storage to their energy mix. SEIA’s new resources are designed to help make the process as easy and straightforward as possible so they can make the best decision for their family.

Suntuity University and Hoymiles have announced an online joint training partnership aimed at ensuring Hoymiles dealers are well-versed on how to install Hoymiles systems. This marks the first training program for Suntuity University and Hoymiles in their joint effort to promote and advance clean energy usage.

 

Indian solar panel manufacturer Saatvik told Solar Power World it is exploring options to open a 1.5-GW panel manufacturing plant in the United States. Saatvik already supports a 1.5-GW plant in Haryana, India (that should expand to 3 GW by September 2023), and is also developing a new 2.5-GW panel and cell facility in Gujarat, India.
